Shomei TOMATSU showed peaceful days of Afghanistan he visited in the 60's in his exhibition "Muddy Monarchy" in 1978. Focused there were several scenes of land and people full of peace and beauty, thrown already out of our memory.
GALLERY 21 would like to remind you of the beautiful Afghanistan used to be, with this exhibition "As-Salamu Alaykum", asking for the real message you may read from each of the scenes taken decades ago and shown today.

Afghanistan has been forced to live with dangers of the Middle East by traveling from 20th to 21st century. The country was "the land of smile" before, offering world's most valuable heritage in culture. TOMATSU visited the country at that time and memorized beautiful lines of mountains and peaceful lives of people.

He expresses his wishes for the future of the country put in high waves of globalization, by his exhibition "As-Salamu Alaykum","may peace be upon you."

About 40 works will be exhibited.
